Shahid Ghandi Judiciary, Yazd: stone, shade and threshold

The Shahid Ghandi Judiciary Building (No. 2) in Yazd, about 28,000 m² in floor area, is a civic building that needs a dignified presence in the city while responding to the hot, dry climate of central Iran.
A symmetrical composition and a clear threshold
The building is organised symmetrically, with a tall portico marking the main entrance on the central axis. A formal landscaped forecourt prepares the approach and sets a calm distance between the street and the building.
Vertical fins and shade
Deep vertical fins shade the façades from the strong sun and give the long elevations a steady, quiet rhythm. The warm sandstone ties the building to the colours of Yazd.
